France's thriving second-hand scene
France has a huge used-goods culture, led by one dominant site plus strong fashion and auction platforms. Here's where locals buy and sell.
The top French marketplaces
- Leboncoin — the French classifieds giant, for everything: furniture, electronics, cars, property. Mostly local pickup (remise en main propre).
- Vinted — dominant for clothing and fashion, French-founded and hugely popular.
- eBay.fr — auctions and Buy-It-Now for electronics, parts and collectibles.
- Selency — curated vintage and design furniture.
- Emmaüs — charity network with online and in-person second-hand shops.
France-specific tips
- Remise en main propre vs envoi: many Leboncoin listings are local pickup only; filter for shipping if needed.
- Pay safely: use protected payment (PayPal biens et services or the platform checkout), not a bank transfer to a stranger. See avoiding scams.
- Watch for the classic Leboncoin scams — fake payment/courier ("Mondial Relay") requests and buyers who "overpay". Never ship against unconfirmed payment.
- Negotiate politely — a reasonable offer is expected on many listings (tips).
